The Intriguing Catch That Might Lead to Archie’s Godparents Being Revealed
When news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle intended to keep the identities of Archie’s godparents private, many royal fans were taken by surprise. Traditionally, a royal baby’s godparents are usually revealed at the time of their christening. But as for two-month-old baby Archie, his big day turned out to be a little bit different.
On July 3, Buckingham Palace released a statement explaining that Meghan and Harry would hold a “small private ceremony,” which would be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. While the ceremony itself was be private, images taken by respected photographer Chris Allerton were be shared by the Sussexes.
But as for Archie’s godparents? While Meghan and Harry wish to also keep this information private, it seems there might be a way the public could find out their identities.
In a report from Hello!, the publication reveals that the Church of England dictates that all details surrounding baptisms are a matter of public record. This technically includes the names of the godparents, so this could very well mean their names will eventually be revealed.
That being said, the traditional rules from the church may not apply in this case, due to the location of Archie’s baptism.
Because the royals will be holding the ceremony in Windsor Castle’s private chapel, the recording of the details around the christening will be at the queen’s discretion. As a result, if the queen wishes it, the details will remain private.
The intriguing catch is similar to another recent revelation about Meghan Markle.
While the new parents decided they would not make Archie’s birth certificate available via the palace, the certificate inevitably became a public document, which meant people could view it anyway.
This revealed that Meghan had in fact given birth at Portland Hospital — a question which was talked about a lot following Archie’s birth.
So with this in mind, while Meghan and Harry wish for the identities of Archie’s godparents to remain private, there’s still a chance we may find out who they are.
The most popular picks touted to be named are some of the couple’s closest pals, including human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, tennis legend Serena Williams, and Meghan’s long time friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney.
With such a solid line-up of choices, Archie is definitely going to be surrounded by some inspiring people as he grows older!
