Along with the rest of his family, Prince William is mourning the loss of his grandfather, Prince Philip. The future king shared a heartwarming tribute this morning which included an adorable (and previously unseen) photo of Philip with William’s eldest son, Prince George.

The snap shows Philip holding onto the reins of a carriage while George sits next to him with a book. Although they don’t list when the photo was taken, the younger Windsor looks to have been about three at the time his mom, Kate Middleton, took the photo.

According to the caption, Philip would often ride up to Kensington Palace and take the children for a spin. William writes, “I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure, as well as his mischievous sense of humor!”

William also describes his grandfather an “extraordinary man” and counts himself lucky for having him as an example throughout his own life. Take a look to see the full tribute below:

Prince Harry, who just arrived back in the UK to be with his family, also updated the homepage of his the Archewell Foundation website with sweet words for his grandfather. After listing several titles and accolades Philip will always be known for, he writes, “To me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ‘til the end.” Harry adds, “While I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, ‘Oh do get on with it!’”

Over the weekend, Prince Charles stepped out to share a heartfelt message about his father. “My dear papa was a very special person who I think, above all else, would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that have been said about him,” he said in a clip posted on Instagram. “And from that point of view, we are, my family, deeply grateful for all that. It will sustain us in this particular loss, and at this particularly sad time. Thank you.”

Queen Elizabeth has yet to release an official statement herself, which is understandable as she processes the loss of the man who has been by her side for more than seven decades. However, the official royal family Instagram account shared a quote from Elizabeth in 1997 which still speaks volumes today: “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”

It’s clear that above all else, Prince Philip will be remembered dearly as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
