Valerie Bertinelli Had the Perfect Response to a Stranger Calling Her ‘Chubby’

Valerie Bertinelli has never shied away from talking about her struggles with weight loss. After announcing that she was re-dedicating herself to eating healthy and shedding a few pounds, she shared cooking tips and invited her fans to follow along with her progress on social media.

Most of us applaud that level of openness and honesty from our favorite celebs, but some jerks use it as an excuse to spread hate and cruelty instead. Luckily, the actress had the perfect response when a stranger decided to leave a rude comment about her body.

Rather than lashing out or letting the person get under her skin and make her feel less confident, Bertinelli posted a screencap of the comment and added an uplifting message of her own.

“Thank you for reminding me I’m so much more than my body.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Country star Kelly Clarkson — someone who’s dealt with her own fair share of body-shamers with a similarly positive style — chimed in to commend Bertinelli’s “true power.”

We love seeing two of our favorite powerful women standing up for each other! In a world full of so much negativity everywhere we turn, it’s easy to let it overwhelm us or lash out — but examples like this remind us that we can turn it all around by simply shifting our perspective a bit and offering support.

It’s something we should all keep in mind more often, whether we’re dealing with hate from others or letting our thoughts become our own worst enemy. And it doesn’t have to be about our weight or body image. We’re all worth so much more than any number on a scale, wrinkle on our face, type of car we drive, size of our house, silly mistake… or anything else that has the potential to drag us down.

The next time you or someone you love is on the verge of letting negativity get the best of them, remind yourself of Bertinelli’s words and spin it right back around for yourself!
