That special day is coming up, and we know you’ve got something nice planned for your honey. But if your plans could use a little extra romantic boost, why not try using aromatherapy to take the love up to the next level?
Essential oils can be used and diffused for many different purposes, but what you may not know is that of those purposes, they can be used as an aphrodisiac, helping to encourage feelings of relaxation, happiness, and even arousal. Check out our list of essential oils you need to try this Valentines Day that will make you feel the love.
Sandalwood is a slightly sweet and woodsy-smelling essential oil. It’s extremely grounding and is known for promoting a sense of calm alertness, and it's used to soothe an overactive nervous system while promoting mental clarity. In Ayurveda — the Indian sister science of yoga — sandalwood is also known as a potent aphrodisiac. To use, add a few drops to a massage oil or lotion.
Another popular aphrodisiac, patchouli is a great essential oil to incorporate into a massage or bath. The scent of patchouli wards off anxiety, helping you to feel grounded while increasing energy. Plus, it’s good for your skin! Can you say luxury? Diffuse this scent or add it to a massage oil or lotion.
Jasmine essential oil has a number of benefits, but most notably, it’s been used to increase libido, especially for women. Interestingly, it’s sometimes called “the queen of the night,” both because of the potent smell of jasmine flowers at nighttime and because of its ability to increase arousal. Jasmine oil can be diffused or used directly on the skin, but it’s best to dilute it in a carrier oil.
Yet another aphrodisiac, ylang-ylang essential oil is often used to promote emotional balance and well-being. It also encourages healthy creative expression, enhancing sexual energy and feelings of connectedness between partners. Be careful not to use too much of this oil, though! A little goes a long way: Use one to two drops diluted in a carrier oil on the skin, or diffuse.
5. Orange Blossom (Neroli)
Neroli, also known as orange blossom, is another potent aphrodisiac scent. This oil is also used to ward off feelings of anger and resentment while promoting a sense of safety and openness — the perfect way to begin or end your Valentine's Day celebrations. To use this oil, add a few drops to a massage oil and simply rub a few undiluted drops of the oil directly on your (or your partner's) chest, over the heart.
