The 14 Baby Names Most Disliked by Grandparents

Choosing baby names is a tough job for any parent. After all, the name you give a child is pretty much for life in most cases. So it’s understandable that parents consult tons of websites, baby name books, friends, and other family members for advice when it comes time to pick a name for their bundle of joy. And when mommy and daddy have settled on a name, they usually feel pretty strongly about it. Well, as it turns out, grandparents have some pretty strong feelings about their grandkids’ names as well. And surprise, surprise, mom’s pick doesn’t always line up with grandma’s preference.

According to a new survey of 2,000 parents and grandparents by Mumsnet and its sister site Gransnet, a fifth of grandparents hate or have hated their grandchildren’s names and one in six parents said they have a parent or in-law who doesn’t like their child’s name. Yikes!

We know what you’re thinking — we were totally shocked to see the name “Charlotte” under the list of despised girl’s names, too! After all, Princess Charlotte is one of the most internationally beloved little kiddos. And we don’t have a fancy survey to give out, but we’re pretty sure most people feel like her (adorable) name fits her (adorable) face. But it gets even more interesting — apparently grandmothers have more objections over grandkids’ names than do grandfathers.
