Police Officer Feeds Suspect’s Crying Baby in Court

Tags:

The longtime “protect and serve” police tagline just got a whole new meaning this week with one police officer in China going above and beyond enforcing the law to show compassion and kindness to a criminal and her baby.

According to The Indian Express, police officer Lina Hao took it upon herself to breastfeed the screaming baby of a woman standing trial in a Shanxi province courtroom in northern China.

Officer Hao, a new mom herself, was holding the little one as their mother answered to crimes including embezzlement and concealment of illegal gains, which she later pleaded guilty for. When the woman’s baby starting screaming in the courtroom, Officer Hao asked her if she could feed the unsettled child as she faced court.

“The baby wouldn’t stop crying and we were all worried,” Office Hao explained. “I am a new mother — I could feel how anxious the child’s mother would have been. All I thought about was to try my best and comfort the tiny baby.” Officer Hao is then said to have found a quiet corner close by and nursed the distressed child.

Pictures of the gesture have since gone viral, with people across the world celebrating Officer Hao’s kind act by singing her praises online. And it’s not just the online community who appreciate Office Hao’s deed; apparently, the mother was so touched by the gesture, she burst into tears upon leaving court.
