Although it’s still early on in the year, we already have a pretty good idea of what the most popular baby names of 2021 will be!
The info comes from parenting website the Bump who had their experts look into pop culture trends, current naming data, and the most searched monikers on their own site to predict this year’s top picks. The company shared their findings while launching a new baby naming hub — and some of their results might surprise you. For example, there seems to be an increasing popularity for gender-neutral and unisex baby names.
Their data showed that “71 percent of expecting parents would consider giving their new bundle of joy a gender-neutral name, while 59 percent prefer a more traditional ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ name.” As for more traditional monikers, 75 percent of parents said they would pick a family name while 65 percent said they would choose one that celebrates their or their partner’s culture.
Whether you’re welcoming a little one to your own family or know someone who is, don’t be surprised if you find their soon-to-be name among the popular selections this year. We might even see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle give one to the bundle of joy they’re expecting this summer!
The Bump broke their picks down into several categories. Take a look to see their baby name predictions for 2021:
Gender Neutral Names
Last Names as First Names
Around the World Names
Out of This World Names
‘X’ Factor Names
Action Star Names
We can’t say we’re surprised to see names from the popular Netflix series Bridgerton make an appearance. It broke records all across the globe as the most viewed show ever on the streaming platform (and the steamy content might have inspired more than a few baby-making sessions…).
Of course, we have a long way to go before the year ends to see whether these predictions come true or not — but it’s still a lot of fun to think about in the meantime!
