Searching for Meaning After the Death of Her 14-Year-Old Son, Mom Spots Something Stunning on the Ground

Mom Dawn Williams was devastated when she lost her precious 14-year-old son, Noah, after a three-year battle with an aggressive and rare form of childhood cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Desperate to find some bit of hope or comfort in the years of sadness and confusion that followed, she finally got a sign–and now she wants to share her message with others who might be grieving the loss of a loved one.
“Before my son died, I had never really considered in depth what happens to a person after death, but suddenly this question became all-consuming. I desperately needed to believe that death was not an ending, in a spiritual sense, and that Noah was still with us in essence and always would be,” wrote Williams (who runs the Noah’s Blue Ribbon Brigade Facebook page in her son’s honor) in a revealing essay published on The Mighty.
Then, she began to see some shocking signs that her beloved Noah was still with her family.
“As my mind grappled with many possibilities, a strange thing happened. In the quiet spaces of reflection, I noticed simple yet profound things that reminded me of my child: a rock shaped like a heart directly in my path, an angel wing in the clouds, rainbows on his birthday and more. They filled me with wonder and a hope I cannot describe,” she wrote.
But nothing could have prepared the family for what happened next.
Her husband and daughter went for a walk one evening, and they returned home excited by what they had found: a four-leaf clover on the family’s front lawn, which had been destroyed recently by a chinch bug, and re-seeded with clover to make it green again without chemical help. Believing it to be another sign from their clever son, they were thrilled when a short time later, their daughter found another one–and another, and another.
Amazingly, it kept happening–and then the daughter found something even more shocking: a five-leaf clover, which has odds of 1,000,000 to one of ever being found, explained Dawn.
“So far in the last five weeks, we have found a total of 21 four-leaf clovers and two five-leaf clovers in our lawn, and the count continues to grow. Pondering these events, I had a clear vision of my son’s laughing face. I believe the true meaning of the clover is a message that even though we cannot physically see him, my son continues to guide us in spirit,” she wrote.
We have the chills over this family’ beautiful message–and especially the mom’s reason for spreading it.
“I share it in the hope that a kindred grieving soul will read this story and find some comfort along with a measure of hope,” she wrote.
We’re so glad she did.
