This Mom of a Down Syndrome Baby Got the BEST Surprise During an Ordinary Grocery Store Trip

New moms–well, any moms, really–are often curious about the outside world and anxious about their children’s futures. One California mom got a tiny break from all that parental worrying in the nicest way possible–and it all happened during a routine trip to the grocery store.

Suzie Skougard was shopping with her 17-month-old daughter, Carly, who has Down syndrome, at Ralph’s in Mission Viejo, CA, when she was suddenly approached by a friendly store clerk, Sydney. Skougard recognized Sydney, who also has Down syndrome, because she’d often noticed her during trips to the store throughout her pregnancy, wondering if the baby in her belly (whom Skougard had already learned had the condition) would be anything like this woman.

Turns out, she needn’t have wondered about Sydney; the woman was more than willing to share information about herself with the mom-daughter duo.

In a recent Facebook, post, Skougard described the heartwarming interaction, in which Sydney pointed out her own similarities to young Carly and gave the new mom plenty of reassurances about her baby girl. She even leaned in for a very special hug.

“I have Down syndrome like her, and I have a big heart,” Sydney said at one point.

Yes, Sydney, you sure do!
