We all want to practice good sun protection — even golden goddess Kelly Ripa, who used to sun with baby oil, has since gotten on board!. As it turns out, it’s not only lotions, sprays, or creams that act as our best defenses against the dwarf star’s harmful ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, however — it’s our clothing, too.
In fact, the Skin Cancer Foundation cites our wardrobe as one of the most effective forms of protection we have from the sun. Eddie Bauer is not only doing its part to keep us safe, it’s going above and beyond with the introduction of its Movement Lux leggings (from $75, Eddie Bauer), which feature an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of 50+.
According to the foundation, this type of UPF is high enough to not only be eligible for its seal of recommendation, it goes above and beyond for an “excellent” rating. That’s because UPF 50 garments are strong enough to block a whopping 98 percent of the sun’s rays. This type of protection also guards against both UVA and UVBs, while SPF is only measured for UVBs.
As if that wasn’t reason enough to buy them, these leggings are equipped with moisture-wicking properties to keep you dry during workouts, sweat be darned, and polygiene odor-control to ensure they never become *those* smelly gym clothes.
You can choose from six different styles (high-res 7/8-length in solid, print, or color-blocked versions, solid or print capris, and joggers, which have a classic, looser fit) and move about in the stretchy fabric, which is made from a blend of spandex and nylon.
Most styles also feature a hidden pocket in the waistband, where you can slip locker keys or debit cards when you’re hitting the gym.
Customers also say they’re super soft, making them the ideal pant to lounge or workout in. “These are my new favorite leggings, super soft and comfortable!” raved one shopper. “Perfect everyday legging!”
Added another: “I found my leggings that I will live on the weekends! So comfortable.”
