Jimmy Dean’s Sausage Cookies Are What Santa Wants for Christmas

Tags:

If you’d prefer a crisp bag of salty chips over a bar of chocolate any day, Jimmy Dean has concocted your perfect holiday-inspired cookie. Sure, Christmas foods are generally pretty yummy (um, hello, Oreo candy canes) but they always tend to be over-the-top sweet. Fortunately, even if you’re not a sweets gal, you can still spend time crafting family traditions in the kitchen with your own Jimmy Dean sausage cookies. Yes, you read that right — sausage cookies.

The holidays are all about spending time with family, so why not invite the grandkids into the kitchen on Christmas morning? Everyone can grab a cookie cutter and make his or her favorite holiday shape: snowmen, reindeer, even a Welsh corgi-shaped sausage patty is possible! (And this time, you won’t be scolded for starting your morning with sweets.) So put on that apron, roll that sausage, and crank the oven dial to medium heat because it’s time to make something delicious. Breakfast is served!

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 8-10 minutes

Serving Size: 6 servings (2 sausage patties each)

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. Jimmy Dean® Regular or Hot Flavor Pork Sausage Roll
  • Garnishes to decorate sausage: assorted shredded cheeses such as cheddar and mozzarella, chopped green onions, chopped tomato, red and green bell pepper strips, fresh herbs such as rosemary, thyme, parsley, etc.
  • Holiday cookie cutters (for best results use metal) such as a star, holiday trees, etc.

Instructions

1. Remove sausage from roll and flatten onto a large sheet of parchment or plastic wrap. Top sausage with second piece of parchment paper. Roll sausage evenly to about ¼-inch thickness. Place on a large baking pan and cover. Freeze for about 1 hour until firm but not a hard freeze.
