Tags:

I’m in a constant battle with my hair, whether it’s frizzy due to humidity or dry from the cold. I’ve tried everything from luxury shampoos and conditioners to the most out there home care solutions. And to make it worse, winter weather can wreak havoc on tresses, negating the beautifying effect of a new cut and leaving you frustrated for months. The fix? DIY hair kitchen cures using natural ingredients you already have!

Add shine to damaged hair with avocado.

The fruit’s vitamin E seals hair’s cuticle so it lies flat, allowing more light to reflect off of it for a beautiful sheen that creates added depth and dimension to boot. To do: Combine one mashed avocado with 2 Tbs. of olive oil (its oleic acid further boosts shine). Apply to damp hair evenly from roots to ends, then rinse after 20 minutes.

End dryness and breakage with honey.

Humectant properties in honey attract and lock moisture into dry hair, which also fortifies strands at the root and improves elasticity to prevent split ends and flyaways. To do: Mix half cup honey and one Tbs. of coconut oil (its lauric acid hydrates). Apply to damp hair from the ears down; rinse after 15 minutes.

Cure a flaky scalp with green tea.

Loaded with anti-fungal catechins, green tea fights the fungus that causes dandruff, while its skin-repairing antioxidants alleviate any lingering itchiness or inflammation. To do: Steep two bags of green tea in two cups of hot water. Once cool, pour the tea onto a damp scalp and let sit 10 minutes before rinsing.

Try these easy kitchen cures and just like that, your hair will feel the healthiest its ever been! Just make sure you’re always stocked up on these pantry essentials in case of emergencies. You never know when you might need them!
