Though the country star is no stranger to signs cheering him on at his performances, this particular neon sign caught his attention.
It read, "Gonna be late to prom, GARTH comes FIRST." And it was held by a teen named Kate, who was, sure enough, wearing her prom dress.
Garth decided to take a break from singing to speak to Kate, who did in fact put prom plans on hold just to see him perform live. Then, he found out she didn't have a date.
So Garth made an offer: Rather than head to the dance, maybe she could help him out at his show by shooting out T-shirts to the audience during his hit song "Friends in Low Places?"
“I’m gonna make a deal with you, okay?” he said. “I’m gonna get one of my guys to come up and get your information. If you go to the prom tonight and it sucks, we’ve got a show here later. If you want to come back and shoot the [confetti] cannons and do stuff like that, you come hang with us, okay? All right, I love you.”
She took him up on his offer—prom dress and all. And she even got to go backstage with him afterward and take a "prom pose" photo op with him.
Aww! If this heartwarming story has brightened up our whole day, we can't imagine how happy it must've made Kate.
