We love romantic movies on the Hallmark Channel, and we're not afraid to admit that we've imagined them happening in real life to us. Well, one grandma decided to actually try out a plot from one of those dreamy Hallmark love stories — and it sounds like it's actually working.
Petra Sutherland, 73, posted her biggest Christmas wish on the website NextDoor.com. She wrote, "Wanted, a boyfriend for Christmas. Please send a message." She said she was inspired while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie, and couldn't help but think this method might work for her.
"I believe in living happily ever after, which is what you see in those movies," Sutherland said in an interview with WBTV. "I thought, why not try it in real life? Maybe I’ll find my dream guy."
Despite a message from NextDoor.com informing her of a "policy violation," her post remained on the site until the next day. And get this: She's already heard back from three potential suitors.
But if these men want to win her heart, it sounds like they're going to have to put in some serious work. She says her dream man is fun, honest, and close to her age — with honesty being the top priority.
Once married for 29 years, the mother of three admitted that her daughter would "freak out" if she knew what she posted on the website — but it's a risk that this romantic is willing to take.
"I admit that I watch some Hallmark movies over and over," Sutherland said. "It makes my day. I think the holidays are romantic and I haven’t given up hope that I’ll find someone to enjoy life with. It’s my Christmas wish."
Fingers crossed that she finds the perfect man to kiss under the mistletoe soon!
