Most of us can all remember the one thing we always dreamed of owning but our parents never gave to us. Maybe it was the keys to the family's station wagon when we turned 16, or our mom's precious pearls. For one grandmother, her only wish as a child was to have a simple doll, and when her granddaughter decided to fulfill that wish decades later, grandma had the most heartwarming reaction.
Miriam Zakharova, 20, knew her grandmother went without during her childhood in Spain during the Spanish civil war. So Zakharova gave back to her grandmother by gifting her the doll that she had always yearned for at Christmas time.
"My grandmother could never have a doll, just like many other women her age, because of the poverty in Spain at the time when they were children—that is, after the Civil War. Wars, as we know, have very unfavorable effects on countries, and at that time eating, having a place to sleep at night, being able to wash oneself, etc. were all more important than having a doll. Many children who lived through those years had their childhoods taken away from them," she told BuzzFeed.
Watch as her grandmother opens the thoughtful gift and her shock turns to happiness—but you should probably grab a tissue first!

So far, Zakharova's video has been shared almost 13,000 times. "I knew it was an emotional video that people would like, but I never thought it'd get so much love from so many different parts of the world," she said.
"We had no idea that she would be so excited about it. Obviously, we knew it was a special present, but we didn't know what her reaction would be. In the end, it was incredibly emotional," said Zakharova.
We love the video so much because it's obvious how grateful and touched Zakharova's grandmother is by the sweet gesture. That sense of gratitude often feels like it's missing from gift-giving today.
"I think we need to start spreading more love around the world," Zakharova said.
We couldn't agree more!
