Janith totally surprised her family by slipping into the Chantilly lace gown she bought in 1957. The dress cost Janith only $69, but even today it looks far more expensive than that.
Alison Goedde, Janith's granddaughter shared the now-viral photo on Twitter, and people can't stop talking about how lovely Janith looks.
"My grandma is 80, she just celebrated 60 years with her man, AND she fits in her wedding dress. #Goals" Alison tweeted. Goals, indeed!
"She looks beautiful and I hope your grandma and grandpa had a great anniversary," someone replied to Alison's tweet. "AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL LADY! Happy 60th Anniversary! May God Bless you with at least 60 more! You are truly BLESSED!" another woman wrote.
Even though Janith has a small smile in the photo, she's absolutely thrilled to celebrate her anniversary in the dress she wore to marry the man she still loves.
“I’ve lost 40 pounds. And it shows,” Janith Goedde, 80, proudly told ABC News. “Everybody comments to me on it. When we came home that evening, one of the girls said, ‘I bet she can still get in her wedding gown. Where’s it at?’ I told them where it was in the attic and they went up there and got it. So I had to put it on. It was a little tight. I didn’t lose that much. It’s still in good shape. It’s still white and I had it in a plastic bag. I didn’t preserve it at all.”
Sixty years earlier, Janith's wedding dress was so popular that the local newspaper wrote a story about it.
“For her wedding, the bride chose a floor-length gown of imported Chantilly lace and nylon tulle over satin, fastened down the back with tiny covered buttons,” it read. “The fitted lace bodice was designed with Sabrina neckline and embroidered in pearlized sequins. The long sleeves tapered over the wrists.”
And all these years later, Janith's dress is still turning heads.
“She still looks beautiful,” Joe Goedde, 84, said. How sweet!
