Putting their royal heads together! Prince William, Prince Harry, and Kate Middleton sat down to have a poignant conversation about mental health in a new video for their "Heads Together" campaign. In it, William made a revelation that both he and Harry in the past had not discussed these awkward topics nearly as much. They all encouraged their viewers to have conversations about mental health moving forward, no matter how uncomfortable it may be at first.
"A young mother actually said that to me … she said actually, ‘just talking to somebody. Having those conversations’ is like medicine for her,” Kate said. “That is the point, is that actually it’s okay to have that conversation, even if it is uncomfortable or awkward.”
Later in the clip, Kate gets extra personal with William and Harry, asking them about whether working on this campaign has helped them reflect on their mother Princess Diana's death.
“We have been brought closer as a result of the circumstances as well,” said William. “You are uniquely bonded because of what we’ve been through. Even Harry and I though, over the years, have not talked enough about our mother.”
“Never enough," he said.
Both Harry and William have opened up recently about the huge impact their mother's death had on them. Harry confessed that he went to therapy after being “very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions." And William revealed that his grief after the loss of his mom was the whole reason why he got involved with issues surrounding mental health in the first place.
While mental health does remain a taboo topic, it looks like these royals are making a big effort to change the stigma—and change the conversation—in a way that only they can.
