This batter may have struck out, but the story that came afterward is hitting a home run in our hearts! Some tear-jerking footage of the interaction between two high school baseball players on different teams in Minnesota is going viral for the best reason: It's a sweet example of good sportsmanship.
In the clip, which has been described as a "highlight" from the game, a talented pitcher sends his team to the state finals with a game-ending strikeout. As one might expect, his entire team starts hooting and hollering and celebrating the big win. But instead of joining his peers in cheering, the pitcher runs over to the defeated batter... and gives him a big ol' hug.
At first, this moment may seem like a bit of a head-scratcher to anyone watching. But as it turns out, the batter is a childhood friend of the pitcher's. The young men even reportedly played Little League together back in the day. Even though they play on opposing teams now, the pitcher obviously still makes a point to put friendship before glory. Make sure you grab a tissue before watching the moment when the pitcher sweetly consoles his buddy below.

How adorable is that? Considering how competitive sports can be these days — especially for kids in high school and college — it's truly encouraging to see that these two young men realize that winning truly isn't everything.
Even more encouraging: The two schools are actually from the same town in Minnesota, which means there's a good chance that there are other close friendships between the competing players. But this viral video proves how valuable just one friendship can be. Not only does it give us a chance to ooh and aah over an act of kindness between high school friends, it also serves as an important reminder to all of us that one small gesture can make a big difference.
