Despite starting her work day in the early hours of the morning, Hoda Kotb always seems to have the brightest, warmest smile beaming from her face. It’s a level of optimism that is even more impressive when you consider all of the hardships she’s had to endure throughout her life and career. Although there have also been plenty of highlights — many of which we all watched along with as she co-hosts the the fourth hour of TODAY with Kathie Lee Gifford — Hoda doesn’t shy away from sharing how she overcame some significant hurdles over the years, too.
Hoda spoke with WomansWorld about how she remained positive in spite of obstacles in our March 19, 2019 issue. Those obstacles include dealing with two particularly heavy blows at the same time: a devastating breast cancer diagnosis and a divorce. “God gives you what you need when you need it,” she explained. Hoda also spilled on how she is able to keep a smile on her face by embracing all of her decisions (even the bad ones), relying on those she surrounds herself with, lifting up others who may be in need, and beginning every day with a grateful heart.
On top of her hosting duties, Hoda has written two children’s books. Her most recent story, You Are My Happy ($12.48, Amazon), is inspired by her nighttime routine with her daughter, Haley Joy. As well as starting her day with a grateful outlook, Hoda teaches Haley Joy to reflect on what moments made her happy each evening before going to sleep. That’s something we can all take to heart when it comes to appreciating even the little things that make our days shine a bit brighter.
No matter how rough our lives might get, she reminds us, “Every day is a beautiful gift!”
