Hoda Kotb & Jenna Bush Hager Weigh Themselves on Live TV — And Share How They’re Going to Shed Some Pounds

It’s always a delight to tune into Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager hosting the third hour of the TODAY show throughout the week, but this Monday’s episode was especially exciting as they stepped onto scales and revealed their individual weights on live TV. Talk about brave!

The co-hosts have decided to team up and try intermittent fasting (IF), a popular diet which restricts your meals to certain hours of the day while fasting for the rest. Although weight loss isn’t their main focus — both hoping more for overall wellness and brain health — they wanted to use their current weights as benchmarks to track their progress along the way. Neither Kotb nor Hager seemed thrilled about letting the whole world know exactly how much they weigh. As Hager put it, “It’s like jumping off a cliff.” But they were able to power through together, holding hands as they stepped up to the scales.

Take a look at the video below to see their results:

Like most women, we understand why Kotb was reluctant to believe the number on her scale, especially since she admitted that she hadn’t eaten for a day and a half before hand! But Hager, who gave birth to her third child just back in August, was definitely even more shocked by the digits staring back at her. “I think I weigh twice as much as my sister,” she joked. “Two Barbara’s could fit in me!”

Tuesday morning, the co-hosts updated audiences on how they felt after going one day on the diet. They decided to limit their eating times between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM (which meant they were chowing down on healthy breakfasts during the segment). Kotb claimed that after just that first day, she already felt more alert. “Yesterday when I was coming home from work, I’m usually like vegged out, [but] I was weirdly like, alert. Very unusual for me!”

Hager, on the other hand, was reminded why she usually avoids weighing herself. “I was playing with my kids, and I kept having that one number in my head.” She and Kotb agreed that life shouldn’t be controlled by a number on a scale, which is something we should all remind ourselves of more often. Although IF diets can help with shedding pounds, which can in turn help avoid things like obesity and diabetes, it’s always important to do whatever is best for your own personal health goals. Always talk to a doctor before starting any new diet regimen.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to tune in and see how Kotb and Hager feel about their experience on the diet and whether it helps them get the overall health results they’re looking for. That, and their charming personalities, of course!
