This 3-Ingredient Essential Oil Hardwood Floor Cleaner Will Make Your Space Immaculate

Tags:

Hardwood floors are one of the most popular flooring choices on the market — and for good reason! With a wide variety of tones and styles available to choose from, they’re an easy way to instantly add the luxe factor to your home that you may have been looking for.

No matter what kind of timber hardwood flooring you choose, the reality is that they do require a little tender love and care to help keep them in tip-top shape. Over time you may want to consider sanding and refinishing your floors, but in the meantime, keeping them clean without using a product that will impact the finish is a must.

Natural cleaning solutions have continued to grow in popularity as viable solutions for keeping your home clean and tidy. Lemon oil and vinegar in particular are a powerhouse combination when it comes to cleaning, and luckily for us, they’re almost pantry staples at this point.

Here’s how to make a natural lemon hardwood floor cleaner.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 4 liters of warm water
  • 2 to 3 drops lemon essential oil

Directions

Mix all the ingredients in a bucket. Dip the mop in the bucket and wring it out well so that it’s barely damp.

Apply to floors and repeat. Note: Measure carefully. The acid in the vinegar can dull a floor’s finish if you don’t stick to the recommended ratio of vinegar to water.

Why It Works

Vinegar cuts through dirt and grime. Water thins out the solution so that it isn’t harsh on the wood. Lemon essential oil helps mask the vinegar’s sour scent and makes floors look shiny.
