Summer Weather Might Be Over for the East and Midwest

Tags:

Is it too early to start dreaming of a white Christmas? While we might be hasty in wishing for snow, we can at least say goodbye to the dog days of summer.

According to The Weather Channel, a dip in the jet stream is lowering temperatures across the Midwest and Northeast. That means states in those areas will see lower-than-average temperatures — by about 10 degrees — even though it’s only August. Basically, highs in most of these areas will peak in the 70s while southern states will experience weather in the low 80s. Minnesota and part of Michigan’s upper peninsula can expect temperatures in the 60s.

However, because of the jet stream’s path, those who live out along the western border will experience hotter-than-average temperatures. Sorry, guys!

If you’re a hot-weather person, you can blame the low humidity levels for making the temps feel even cooler than they actually are. As a result, residents in some areas can expect morning lows to hover around 20 degrees below average. For people living in states like Wisconsin, Minnesota, northern Michigan, and the Northeast interior, you could see temperatures reaching the 30s and 40s. Yikes!

So will this cold weather affect your Labor Day plans? The cold front will last through the month and likely the holiday as well. If you live in the South, these cooler temps might actually make spending time outside more enjoyable. However, if you live in an area that’s expecting lower-than-average highs, you might be chillier than normal if you want to spend a day at the beach.

But don’t get too bummed out about summer ending! The Weather Channel reports that there is a chance that things will heat up a bit once we head into September. A girl can dream, right?
