Pittsburg Police Department
A golden retriever who goes by Moe has been named a "hometown hero" after helping his owner rescue a man who fell into the water at a Northern California marina on Wednesday.
The Pittsburg Police Department of Pittsburg, California, posted a Facebook photo of Moe, detailing the almost-nearly-tragic event in the caption. An elderly man who had been taking his morning walk suddenly fell into the water, but thankfully Moe saw it all. He immediately started barking for his owner to wake up — and once his owner realized something was wrong, he rushed out to help the man.
"The man was able to be helped from the water and was extremely grateful to his new barking buddy!" the department wrote in the Facebook post.
To thank Moe for his good deed, K9 Officer Angelica Morris and Sgt. Nick Law visited Moe at his home with treats and praise for their new hometown hero.
"Moe is about as sweet as can be and clearly loves the attention he is receiving for saving the life of an elderly gentleman who slipped and fell into the water near his home this morning," the department wrote in another Facebook post. "Good job, Moe! We are proud to say you really are a hometown hero!"
We're so happy Moe's keen instinct helped save someone's life; we hate to think of what might have happened had he not been watching the marina! Great work, Moe: Your community is safe with you around to keep a watchdog eye on things!
