How to Peel a Peach In Less Than Five Seconds Without a Knife

Tags:

If you’re in charge of the Thankgiving pies or you enjoy canning in your free time, you probably know how to peel a peach. But for the rest of us who enjoy the occasional peach, the idea of peeling it might seem foreign. That’s why we’re all so confused — yet oddly delighted — by this viral peach-peeling video.

Japanese Twitter user Okada tweeted a video of herself essentially peeling the skin off a peach in one go. People responded to the video very aptly, if a tiny bit inappropriate, pointing out that it looks like watching a peach take off its clothes. We know, we know — not our words!

Okada told BuzzFeed News that she came across this peach-peeling hack in an older tweet. She tried it herself, and it obviously worked.

So how do you peel a peach? According to Okada, you first put the peach in hot water for 20 seconds. Then, you put it in cold water for five minutes. After that, you should be able to pull off the skin in one motion.

Okada says she only put the peach in cold water for a minute before filming her attempt to peel off the skin. Considering she got it off cleanly, you might not have to wait the full five minutes if you’re pressed for time.

While this hack might seem like a no-brainer for skilled home chefs, a lot of people, ourselves included, expressed shock at the idea that people actually peel peaches. Most of us don’t think about where our peaches come from when we’re enjoying a fruit cocktail, so can you really blame the internet for not knowing peeling peaches is a thing?

So now that you know, will you peel your peaches?
