After a Groom Had a Brazen Request For His Bride, She Held the Wedding Without Him

Yuri Sun had a beautiful white dress on, a gorgeous reception hall booked, and even guests seated at every table. But her called-off wedding wasn’t going to happen.

Sun, a Corporate Vice President at New York Life Insurance, decided to host a pre-Mother’s Day luncheon the day of what was supposed to be her wedding. Yuri called off the wedding two months prior after declining to sign a prenuptial agreement.

The Princeton graduate worked with the Salvation Army and Inwood House, an organization that helps prevent teen pregnancy, to find the perfect guests to the unique event. As a result, Sun gave 60 underprivileged kids of all ages and their families a day they’ll remember forever. “I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, but I can give the kids a fairy tale,” Sun told the New York Post.

The celebration had music, delicious food, ice pops, and even face paint for the kids! Sun’s six-year-old daughter was also there to join in on the festivities and help her mom enjoy the day. During the event, Sun inspired her guests, telling them about how she grew up poor in China, moved to America, and earned a full scholarship to Princeton University where she got a PhD in electrical engineering.

“I thought it was an incredibly selfless act,” William Natal, a guest at the party, told CBS New York. “Just to turn around and do something that helps others is an amazing show of character.” And we completely agree!
