Hero Mom Sacrifices Herself to Save Her Child From Hurricane Harvey

A mother’s love is stronger than any storm — even Hurricane Harvey. That’s all we can think after hearing the heart-wrenching news story about a mother and her 18-month-old daughter trying to escape Harvey’s floodwaters in Texas — with the mom making the ultimate sacrifice to ensure her daughter’s survival.

The pair were traveling together on Aug. 29 on a highway service road in Beaumont when their vehicle hit high waters, according to the police. Authorities said the mother immediately pulled into a parking lot, got out of the vehicle, and grabbed her child. Though they desperately tried to escape the floodwaters, police said the mother and daughter, who have not been publicly identified, were swept into a canal.

First responders found them that very afternoon floating toward a railroad trestle — with the toddler clinging on tightly to her beloved mother. Sadly, the mother did not make it, but because of her selfless bravery, a rescue crew was able to save her child.

“Water was up to the trestle and first responders would not have been able to save the child if they had floated under it,” police said in a statement. “Officers pulled the child and the mother into the boat.”

Authorities said that while the little girl was suffering from hypothermia, she is finally in stable condition. We are keeping her and her whole family in our thoughts in the meantime as she recovers.

Clearly, a mother’s love knows no bounds — and we should strive to remember her and her tremendous bravery moving forward.
