Waffle House Waitress Who Helped Elderly Customer Is Repaid for Her Kindness

If you’re having the type of day when you need a reminder that good people still exist, we think the latest viral story will do just the trick. It all started with a young waitress named Evoni Williams working hard at a Waffle House in the Houston area.

During the 18-year-old’s shift, she happened to notice an elderly man with an oxygen tank who was struggling to catch his breath, let alone cut up the food on his plate. The man said that his hands don’t “work too good.” Without thinking twice, Williams lent him her hands to help. Little did Williams know, another customer was watching them — and taking a beautiful photograph.

Diner Laura Wolf posted a photo and a story of the act of kindness that she witnessed on her Facebook page, instantly warming hearts all over her feed. Wolf wrote in the caption, “I don’t know her name, but I heard this elderly man tell her his hands don’t work too good. He was also on oxygen and struggling to breathe. Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham. This may seem small, but to him, I’m sure it was huge.”

She added, “I’m thankful to have seen this act of kindness and caring at the start of my day while everything in this world seems so negative. If we could all be like this waitress and take time to offer a helping hand.”

Is it any wonder that Wolf’s post now been shared more than 50,000 times and liked more than 100,000 times?

But after about a week passed, Williams received more than just high praise from people on the internet. The high school graduate also got a $16,000 scholarship offer from Texas Southern University — a valuable gift for a young woman who took a restaurant job in order to save up for school. Now, Williams can’t believe her good deed caught so many eyes.

“I didn’t know the photo was taken until a couple hours later,” Williams said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. “When I saw it, it’s just something I would do for anybody.”

And that is exactly what makes this moment so breathtakingly lovely. More news stories like this one, please!
