California is in the middle of its fire season, and blazes are wrecking havoc in the area. Chances are you’ve heard some news about the damage, especially because stars, like The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki, have found themselves victims of the devastation. Fortunately, there’s some good news coming out of the tragedies on the West Coast that will make you believe again in the kindness of humans.
After battling the La Cadena wildfire in La Loma Hills, CA, a group of 25 firefighters went to Denny’s to refuel. The men — probably sweaty, fatigued, and dirty — indulged a little bit, ordering Oreo shakes, strawberry lemonades, and bacon. But what happened next is something none of the men could have predicted.
According to a Facebook post from the City of Colton Fire Department, “an anonymous woman told the Denny’s staff that she wanted to buy all of the firefighter’s meals.” Without telling any of the men, “this woman paid for the meal of all of the firefighters at Denny’s at that time, plus tip for a total of $405.” How amazing!
On top of that, the woman left a $100 gift card to pay for dessert for the rest of the fire crews that were scheduled to come in later.
The public information officer for the Colton Fire Department, Captain Tom DeBellis, told TODAY Food that when all the fire crews had had their meals at Denny’s, the total bill came to $1,700. Yikes!
So even though the woman couldn’t stick around for the entire Colton Fire Department, the crew could not have been more appreciative of her contribution.
“On behalf of all of the firefighters that worked on the La Cadena Fire… we thank you for your generous show of support,” they wrote in the Facebook post.
We bet this will just make your day — it certainly made ours.
