Palace Reveals Unseen Photo of Kate Middleton for World Photography Day

Tags:

As patron of the Royal Photographic Society, Kate Middleton is no stranger to getting behind the lens to capture a great photo. But to celebrate World Photography Day, Kensington Palace released a previously unseen photograph of the Duchess of Cambridge taken in June this year.

In the snap, a seated Kate sports a paisley print dress designed by Ridley London and holds a camera as she smiles. In the photo next to her is nine-year-old Josh Evans, who is an aspiring photographer himself.

Today is #WorldPhotographyDay 📸 when we celebrate the art, craft, science and history of photography. Photography can provide a universal language 💬 for anyone to express themselves and release their thoughts and feelings. In June this year The Duchess of Cambridge joined children from @ActionforChildrenUK for a special photography workshop run by @RoyalPhotographicSociety. Among the children The Duchess met at the workshop was Josh, aged 9 — and this World Photography Day we're excited to share some of Josh's images that he took that day. Swipe ⬅️ to take a closer look. Fantastic work 👏 Josh! Ahead of The Duchess's visit to the photography workshop we announced that Her Majesty The Queen passed the patronage of The Royal Photographic Society to The Duchess, having held the role for 67 years. The Duchess has a longstanding interest in photography, and her patronage will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity can have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people. 📷 Kensington Palace / Josh Evans

“Today is #WorldPhotographyDay when we celebrate the art, craft, science and history of photography,” Kensington Palace captioned the post.

“Photography can provide a universal language for anyone to express themselves and release their thoughts and feelings.”

The photo was taken during a royal engagement in June 2019 when the Duchess of Cambridge joined children from children’s charity Action for Children for a special photography workshop run by the Royal Photographic Society.

Kensington Palace’s post also featured some pictures snapped by Josh himself including a leaf with water droplets on it and a close-up shot of a daisy flower.

“Among the children The Duchess met at the workshop was Josh, aged 9 — and this World Photography Day we’re excited to share some of Josh’s images that he took that day. Swipe to take a closer look. Fantastic work, Josh!” the palace added in their caption.

At the June outing, Kate also revealed that her children were inheriting her love of photography as well. According to HELLO!, the royal mom-of-three advised a couple of children, “Just look at everything around you. Maybe it’s in front of you, or far away, but choose your subject and focus on it.”

She continued, “Get outside with your camera as well. George and Charlotte love it when we do that.”

Fingers crossed Kensington Palace will show some of the Cambridge children’s artwork soon too!

Before Kate, her grandmother-in-law the queen was the royal patron of The Royal Photographic Society and held the role for a whopping 67 years.

Even the queen’s photographer, Hugo Rittson Thomas, sung Kate’s praises following his initial encounter with her during a 2012 photo session with Prince William.

“I was quite taken aback by her knowledge of photography,” he told PEOPLE. “She asked a lot of technical questions about what I was doing and the set up — she almost caught me out a few times actually.”

After seeing Kate’s own photos of a young Prince George and Princess Charlotte back in 2016, he declared them to be “wonderful pictures.”

“Beautifully shot. She captured the joy, happiness and youth of her children which is a wonderful thing and sometimes hard to do as a parent.”
