Talk about a happy accident! One New Jersey woman found out she was truly "set for life" after accidentally buying a lottery ticket by the same name a few weeks ago.
Oksana Zaharov was shopping in New York when she decided to buy a $1 scratch-off ticket. But the clerk mistakenly handed her a $10 "Set For Life" ticket instead. Since the mom of two felt bad about the clerk's mix-up, she decided to go ahead and buy the more expensive ticket anyway. And she wasn't in any hurry to use it.
Zaharov said, “I actually used the ticket as a bookmark for a couple of weeks before I decided to scratch it.”
When she finally did, she was flabbergasted to see that she won a whopping $5 million.
"I never win anything," she said. "I was sure the ticket was fake."
But it was completely real. So now, over the course of 20 years, Zaharov will receive the prize through 19 payments of $260,000 (or $172,068 after taxes), and then one payment of $60,000 (or $39,708 after taxes).
Then, the lucky mama will receive $172,068 annually for the rest of her life. Not such a shabby deal for a $10 purchase!
The best part? Zaharov plans on putting her good fortune to good use: Making sure her two children get to enjoy loan-free college educations. On top of that, she plans on treating her whole family to a special vacation to the Bahamas.
Set for life, indeed!
