A woman named Linda in New Zealand got the shock of her life when her husband of 34 years proposed to her for a second time. Her beloved spouse, Michael Joyce, 68, has Alzheimer's, so he had apparently forgotten that he was already married to her. But he clearly did not forget how much he wanted to marry her.
"He looked me straight in the eyes and stuttered: 'Will you marry me?'" said Linda, 64, of the heartwarming moment, which happened in the middle of the night.
She happily accepted, saying, "Of course I will, darling."
"You don't say, oh, we're already married. So, I said, of course I will, thinking he might not remember," Linda said.
But instead, Michael asked her the next morning, "So, when are we doing this?"
When she realized that Michael was serious, she knew instantly that she didn't want to miss out on this chance to renew her wedding vows with him. So that's exactly what she did.
She put out a call for assistance on a New Zealand community site called Neighbourly and was amazed by the immediate response she received from others.
With the help of the couple's "nearest and dearest friends of 30-plus years," as well as kind strangers offering their wedding services, Linda was able to arrange the entire vow renewal ceremony at the beautiful Hamilton Lake to happen just a week after Michael's second proposal.
"To be standing amidst the beauty of the Hamilton Lake and our precious friends, to re-marry the love of my life, was the happiest day of my life," Linda said.
We're sure it was a beautiful day, and we're more sure than ever now that there's nothing more beautiful than long-lasting love. Congratulations to the happy couple on their second wedding!
