One family in Maine received a miracle earlier this week after their beloved 13-year-old yellow lab mysteriously disappeared. Five days later, the sweet pup, Sophie, was found alive and well — with her head peeking her head out of a pile of snow.
The search for Sophie began on January 5, with a Facebook post.
"We are missing our 13-year old yellow lab named Sophie from Cushman Road in Bryant Pond," the post read. "She went out with all of us last night just before 5 p.m. while we were plowing and shoveling, and she wandered off and hasn’t come back. Please share, let us know if she’s been spotted or any other scenario. We have calls in to animal control, responsible pet care, the town office and neighbors."
Sophie's owner, Albert Silver, said Sophie disappeared around 5 p.m. on January 4, while he and his family were shoveling snow. Thankfully, other Facebook users were quick to share the post — the post was shared more than 2,400 times over the course of their five day search. On January 9, Silver posted an "exciting update" that their yellow lab had been found and was doing great. How sweet!
"It’s a miracle," Silver wrote. "Sophie has been found alive and well."
Sophie was found by Silver's family member Richard Austin who noticed a sweet little face peeking out of the snow. Austin had to use a tractor to plow a path through the snow. After her rescue, Sophie was immediately taken to the vet. Though she lost a few pounds, Sophie was given a clean bill of health.
"We can’t thank everyone enough who thought of Sophie and prayed for her," Silver said. "We are so grateful that she was found. It’s a miracle that she is coming out of this just fine. She will enjoy being spoiled from now on!"
We're so happy Sophie is finally safe and warm. It must have been frightening to be out in the cold all alone for so long!
