Secret Amazon Service Lets You Trade Unwanted Items for Credit

Chances are high that you’ve bought something on Amazon before. Or maybe you’ve even sold an item or two on the online shopping giant. But have you ever tried the Amazon trade-in program?

If you’re like us and you didn’t even know the Amazon trade-in program existed until now, you may be missing out on a great money-saving opportunity the next time you shop on the site. Yes, really.

As Brandt Ranj reveals in a Business Insider piece, Amazon has a pretty “robust” trade in program that allows you to trade in your unneeded or unwanted products for store credit. That’s right: The items that may be collecting dust in your home could potentially be your ticket to spending less on something you actually do want or need. And it’s pretty easy to do, too!

Amazon trade-in program

According to Ranj, all you have to do is go to the product page that sells the item you want to get rid of and see if it’s eligible for the trade-in. If it is, you’ll see a “trade in” button on the right hand side of the page. The number shown there is highest trade-in value possible that you could get if you decide to try trading in your item.

But like most trade-ins, the credit you’ll get for this item depends greatly on its condition. And if it happens to be an electronic item, this will also depend on whether you have the product’s accessories (like wires and chargers) available to trade in as well.

Next, you ship the item in for consideration, either for free through a prepaid UPS shipping label or through the shipping carrier of your choice that you pay for.

“After sending in your trade-in, you should expect to wait a week or so before they receive and inspect your product and send you credit,” Ranj wrote. “I’m in the process of an Amazon trade-in right now, and the process took me all of two minutes to complete.”

Too easy! We know what we’re checking before we make our next purchase on Amazon.
