Ashleigh Miller-Cross was shopping in the grocery store when she left with something most unexpected yet incredibly joyful—a newborn baby.
Miller-Cross, who had given birth to her daughter 10 months earlier, didn't know she was pregnant again, until that fateful shopping trip at the Bayers Lake Atlantic Superstore in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Since she hadn't gained any additional weight since the birth of her daughter, she said she had no reason to suspect that she was pregnant again.
“I didn’t know I was pregnant and ended up giving birth in the Atlantic superstore bathroom,” Miller-Cross said.
Luckily, the store's assistant manager realized she needed assistance and helped her out by finding her a doctor from the store's medical clinic. But that wasn't the end of the store assisting the new mom with her essential needs.
After her baby boy was born, the store donated a year's worth of free diapers. Goodness knows she needed a lot of those! And even that wasn't the end of the acts of kindness shown to Miller-Cross.
Jen Matchett of Branches Photography caught wind of the story on Facebook and was moved by the event.
“A local news story popped up on my feed. Then the next day I saw a relative of theirs, on a community group looking for donations for the family, who was obviously not expecting another baby,” she said.
And the talented photographer instantly started imagining all the wonderful photos that Miller-Cross could take to celebrated the unexpected blessing, and how she could donate her own services.
She continued, “I knew they wouldn’t have been saving for something like that. My photographer brain was already envisioning the grocery basket shot, it just came to me and I had to make it happen.”
And oh boy, did she ever!
