Facebook can be an ideal tool for reconnecting with those from our past. Amanda Scarpinati used Facebook to organize an incredible reunion, 38 years in the making.
When Amanda was a baby, she suffered burns from a vaporizer that put her in the Albany Medical Center in New York. Although she doesn't remember the nurse who took care of her, she's always treasured a touching picture of the two that appeared in the hospital's annual report in 1977.
"It’s the nurses who are there comforting you, and here I am, this tiny infant, she’s just staring at me and smiling and I wasn’t crying in any of those pictures, so that says a lot,” she told News 10.
When she posted the photo on Facebook, she had no idea the response she would get. Within 12 hours, the picture went viral and the mystery was solved.
Retired nurse Angela Leary messaged Amanda letting her know the special nurse was Susan Berger from Syracuse, NY.
Since then, Susan and Amanda have spoken on the phone and met in person.
Amanda recalls being bullied as a child because of her burns. "I'd look at those pictures and talk to her, even though I didn't know who she was. I took comfort looking at this woman who seemed so sincere caring for me," she said.
