I used to firmly believe that lip balm is a scam. No lip product I’d ever used made one iota of difference in keeping my lips hydrated — if anything, they made them worse. I always had dry, cracked lips, and spent my days constantly reapplying chapstick. That is until I discovered something that changed my life (and lips) forever: Nuxe’s Rêve De Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm ($16, Walmart).
I first heard about this product years ago, from a British beauty writer who raved about the luxurious lip balm. The problem was it was only sold in Europe, so if I wanted to try it, I would have to buy it online for $10 plus shipping and handling fees. Initially, I balked at the price tag. How could this little pot be worth it? No, thank you! But on a trip to Paris, I came upon it in a pharmacy and bought one — and I’m so glad I did.
Not only is this the fanciest feeling lip balm I’ve ever used, it’s hands-down the best. Rêve de miel, which roughly translates to “honey dream,” is exactly that. The formula is thick and rich thanks to ingredients like beeswax and shea butter, but it never feels sticky or tacky. It smells delicious, like honey and lemon.
I always have the convenient half-ounce container in my purse with me, and I make sure to apply some every night before I go to bed. When I wake up in the morning, my lips are soft, moisturized, and ready for whatever lipstick, stain, or gloss I apply that day. But usually, my lips look so good that I prefer to leave them bare.
That first pot lasted almost three years — proof that a little goes a heck of a long way — but when I finally used every last bit I was still unwilling to pay $30 to have it shipped to my house. I resorted to begging some friends who were traveling to France to buy some for me in exchange for taking care of their cat.
But lucky for you (and me!), some Nuxe products, including my beloved Rêve De Miel, are now available at Walmart, and other US retailers. If you’re in the market for a new lip balm, I highly recommend splurging on this gem. It's one of those holy grail products you’ll never want to be without again!
