It's hard to believe that it's been more than a year since Prince passed away in 2016 at the young age of 57. While we all miss the beloved artist dearly, it's safe to say that his memory lives on in all of his adoring fans' hearts and minds. And now, his legacy lives on in a color, too.
Known as "The Purple One" while he was still alive, Prince donned many shades of purple throughout his career. Arguably, one of his most famous songs is "Purple Rain." So it should surprise no one that he would be honored with his color of choice long after his death. And now, the Pantone Color Institute, which is the global color authority, has sealed the deal with Prince's estate to ensure that there will be a standardized custom color of purple to honor the legendary singer.
"The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever," said Troy Carter, Entertainment Advisor to Prince's estate, in a press release.
Pantone said the official shade will be named after his unpronounceable "Love Symbol #2," and it is inspired by his custom-made Yamaha purple piano that was supposed to accompany him on tour before he tragically passed away last year.
You can check out the new color for yourself in the Facebook post from Pantone below. Beautiful, isn't it?
We miss you, Prince!
