Pampered Parrot Cruises Town on a Big Bike’s Tiny Sidecar

What do you do when you need to run an errand but have a pet with you? You bring it along, of course. And that’s exactly what Dan Meier has been doing for almost the last two decades with his beloved parrot, Rosie.

If you’re ever driving through Cincinnati and spot a motorcycle, be on the lookout for Rosie and her custom-made sidecar. Rosie’s owner first brought her out on his bike because he had a job to do and couldn’t leave her behind. So Rosie hitched a ride right on the handlebars, and there she stayed. However, Meier installed a new gear that made the handles too hot for Rosie to sit on comfortably.

Eventually, Meier built the bird her very own sidecar so she could ride in style. The small carrier comes with a windshield and harness, and the side is inscribed with the words “Live. Ride. Fly.”

“It doesn’t matter how fast or far I go, she’ll ride there,” Meier told WLKY. Meier estimates he and Rosie have shared the road for thousands of miles, riding for hours at a time without a problem. Rosie’s even been OK when the bike was traveling at 80 miles per hour! As for whether Rosie enjoys her hot rod, “She never said she doesn’t!” Meier joked.

Apparently dogs aren’t the only animals who enjoy going for a ride! We’re all pretty accustomed to seeing a pup stick its head out the window, jowls flopping and ears going every which way — but seeing a parrot on a motorcycle just might take the cake for the craziest thing we’ve ever seen on a car ride.

Birds can be wonderful pets, too, so it’s nice that Meier spoils his wingwoman. So even though Rosie’s wings are clipped, she can still soar — from the front seat of her sidecar, that is.
