We like to think we’re pretty open-minded when it comes to unusual flavors and trying new foods and drinks. We got particularly excited over Lidl’s gin and juniper roast pork chips (don’t they sound dreamy?) and have been enjoying the weird and wonderful advent calendars popping up in the days leading up to Christmas.
However, we’re not entirely sold on Pepsi’s latest new flavor. They’ve just released a salted caramel flavored cola and, if we’re honest, it just sounds a bit too much.
According to Pepsi, the new drink “blends the refreshing taste of cola with a delicious caramel finish,” and is a new limited edition for the holiday season.
“Salted Caramel is a popular flavor that consumers are looking for — and delighted to find — especially during the holidays," Pepsi's vice president of marketing told TODAY. "We see it across food and beverages, from yogurt, to bagels, to tea!" he added.
However, the people of Twitter have spoken, and they’re not totally on board with it.
#SaltedCaramelPepsi Just tried Salted Caramel Pepsi. So gross. 🤢🤢🤢🤢 Tried to drink it just because I paid money for it. Couldn't even force it down. pic.twitter.com/Pi6vFxwP0A— Simba's Mom (@SimbasMom39) November 8, 2017

Although, some were more positive:

And this guy’s just a bit on the fence:
So this... #SaltedCaramelPepsi is a thing now... wouldn't say it's the soda of the year but it's ok just look out for that aftertaste pic.twitter.com/oVmnxVEBSV— Andrew Johrendt (@AndrewJohrendt) November 12, 2017

Apparently, no one likes a surprising aftertaste. As of now, Pepsi Salted Caramel is currently only available in the U.S. If you want to get creative, you could also try some normal Pepsi and a box of salted caramel, and make a little concoction of your own. That sounds way more fun.
