With the holidays right around the corner, we’re sure a lot of lucky families will soon be taking home a furry puppy present for their family to cuddle. Of course, one of the most important first tasks for new dog owners is choosing the perfect name. That, and making sure the house is stocked with plenty of treats for the sweet pup!
Whether you got your new family member from a breeder or rescued your small friend from the local shelter, every dog has their own personality and deserves a name to fit. But this year some monikers were definitely leaders of the pack. Below are the 25 most popular names pup parents picked out for their furbabies in 2019, according to an annual survey by the dog sitting and walking company Rover. (Note: This list is specifically for young puppies, not older dogs.)

Do you spy any of your own pups’ names on the list? If so, don’t be surprised if you hear someone else calling out your little guy’s name at the dog park! Or if you notice a few kiddos sharing these adorable monikers, which have become just as popular for non-furbabies. Milo is also on the list for popular baby names of 2019, Oliver made the ranks for boys in 2018, and Riley and Mia were popular choices for little girls last year, too. Plus, we can just imagine other sweet names like Ruby, Stella, and Leo becoming hits for new parents in the near future.
Rover also shared survey results on how pet parents picked out their particular pooch names (say that five times fast). TV shows, video games, movies, and books made up the largest percentage of name inspiration with 33 percent — such as the name Harley likely being inspired by Harley Quinn from DC Comics and movies.
Other owners chose names based on brands, food, beverages, geographic locations, and even some choosing to name their dogs after someone they know. Honestly, who wouldn’t be honored to have a cute canine namesake?
Another interesting fact discovered from their survey: Most pet owners, about 81 percent, give their dogs nicknames in addition to the pup’s original name. Some dogs wind up with about three or more different ways for their favorite humans to call for them!
