You probably expect the royals to make a big deal about their Christmas celebrations, especially when it comes to the youngest members of their family. Prince George has even famously been known to send handwritten letters to Santa to be delivered by his “pops,” Prince William. It turns out, however, that one of the biggest holiday traditions for George, Charlotte, and eventually Louis doesn’t come from the royal side of their family.
Carole Middleton, Kate’s mother, recently spoke with the Telegraph in a rare, two-part interview. In it, she revealed a lot about the Middleton’s lives growing up with their three children while running their own party supply business, Party Pieces. She made it very clear just how important it was to keep the family close together over the years. Of course, Carole was careful not to reveal too many details about Kate’s younger days considering the duchess will one day be Queen alongside William as King. That said, Carole did let slip that she has always loved having multiple Christmas trees in the family’s home — including separate ones in the bedrooms for her grandchildren (including Pippa’s son) when they visit.
According to Carole, each of the children get to decorate their tree however they’d like all by themselves. She also seemed to be a bit reluctant to admit she indulges in such a luxury, admonishing herself by saying “that makes me sound as though I live in a mansion, doesn’t it?” To be fair, George and Charlotte’s other grandparents (and great-grandparents) admittedly live in much more lavish accommodations than the stately Bucklebury Manor Carole and her husband Mike call home.
In the second half of her interview with Telegraph, Carole, or “Granny Middleton” as she’s more fondly known, elaborated on the other types of Christmas trees she decorates for the home during the holidays. Themes include a “fashionable” array of ornaments and another tree with more nostalgic, “memory” ornaments dating back throughout her family’s history. She also loves getting the kids involved in cooking up treats during the festive season, like having their little hands help with stirring ingredients.
Although we don’t hear much from Kate’s side of the family, it’s wonderful to get a bit more information on how much a part of young George, Charlotte, and Louis’ lives the Middleton’s are — especially during the holidays!
