Despite their parents’ very public split, both Prince Harry and William always maintained a close relationship with their mother, Princess Diana. That strong connection continued after her tragic passing, something that’s especially clear as the boys follow in her charitable footsteps. A few recently resurfaced photos from Harry’s high school days also reveal the measures the younger prince took to keep Diana close to his heart. Photographers were given the opportunity to document Harry’s life at Eton College, a posh boarding school for boys between the ages of 13 and 18, just before his graduation in 2003.
During his five years at the school, Harry happily participated in athletics and even performed in a production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Although he was notoriously less interested in the academic side of things, Harry did have a heartwarming reminder of Diana right on his desk to keep him company while he studied.
Students were allowed to decorate their dorm rooms “within limits,” even if they happened to be a prince. Among young Harry’s adornments were photos of his favorite celebrities, an impressively large stereo, and the flag of England. Front and center, however, was a gorgeous black-and-white photo of his mom. Having the beautiful tribute to Diana on display in such a prominent way speaks volumes to the level of love and respect Harry had (and continues to have) for her after so many years.
The black-and-white photo wasn’t the only homage to Diana found among his decor, though. Harry also pinned up a picture of her and one of his father, Prince Charles, right by his bed. If you take a close look at the nightstand on the left side of the photo, you’ll find a framed photo of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, sporting a lovely blue dress, too.
How sweet is it that even as a teen, Prince Harry kept himself surrounded by photographs of his family. It just goes to show that, although he was known for his “bad boy” reputation in the past, Harry has always had a soft spot for those he truly cares about. It makes us wonder how many photos of Meghan he might have around him today — perhaps even on his phone’s home screen!
