Prince Harry Shares Baby News With 98-Year-Old War Widow Who Always Greets Him With a Smooch

Tags:

Everyone is excited about the royal baby news from Prince Harry and his wife Meghan. Although we still have plenty of time to wait before we are properly introduced to their little bundle of joy in spring 2019, most of us can’t help but wonder if it will be a boy or girl — and what name they might give their kiddo. Of course, the duke and duchess have remained relatively tight-lipped since confirming the news on October 15, 2018, but the couple did manage to take a moment to gush over their impending parenthood with a special friend of Harry’s.

While greeting royal fans in Australia in the days leading up to Harry’s annual Invictus Games, the dad-to-be introduced Meghan to Daphne Dunne. The 98-year-old first caught Harry’s eye back in 2015 while wearing her late-husband’s war medal. According to reports from Daily Mail, her husband, Arthur Chowne, was posthumously awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross — the highest award in the British system of honor — in 1945 for his bravery during World War II. His heroic actions tragically took his life, but allowed his division to continue their advance.

As a military man himself, Harry was no doubt drawn to someone with such an impressive medal on their sleeve. When he knelt down to greet her on his 2015 visit, Daphne took the opportunity to give the prince a quick kiss on the cheek! Harry was obviously delighted by the sweet woman and was only too happy to repeat the affectionate greeting when he returned in 2017 and again with his wife in 2018.

You can see the most recent interaction between Prince Harry, Meghan, and Daphne in the video below. You can even hear the duchess mention their upcoming “little one” before moving along to greet other well-wishers.
