Prince Harry and wife Meghan usually keep the press at a distance, but the couple allowed cameras and British journalist Tom Bradby to follow them around while they toured South Africa earlier this fall. The footage was turned into a documentary that has already aired in England, but don’t worry, you can catch Harry and Meghan: An African Journey on ABC at 10/9 pm CT tonight!
This doc reveals a lot more than how the royal couple travels. Bradby gained insight to their passion for their many charities, but also got Meghan to open up about the pressures she’s faced as a new mom with the world’s eyes on her every move. Watch below to see Meghan’s emotional response after simply being asked if she’s OK:
"Not many people have asked if I’m ok ... it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."— ITV News (@itvnews) October 18, 2019
Meghan reveals to ITV's @tombradby the intense media spotlight has left her struggling to cope while becoming a mum #HarryAndMeghan https://t.co/Uy21iE6ozJ pic.twitter.com/kZqhZV66OL
Her words have already resonated with moms across the globe who've felt the same sense of vulnerability even without having the press constantly following them around, digging into their personal family history, and printing outrageous headlines about them on a daily basis. According to Variety, Meghan also reveals how friends actually warned her about how vicious news outlets would be to her long before she became a duchess.
“When I first met my now-husband, my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life,” she claims. “I really tried to adopt this British stiff upper lip.”
As for hubby Harry, he sheds more light on the rumored fallout between him and his brother, Prince William. “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably stuff happens,” he explains. “But look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers, we’re certainly on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him as I know he will always be there for me.”
Sounds a lot like our own families, if you ask us. No matter how much you might disagree about something, you're still there for each other. We’ll definitely be tuning in tonight to hear more from Harry and Meghan — and hopefully get a few glimpses of adorable baby Archie, too!
