It’s no secret the Duchess of Cambridge has been battling severe morning sickness since becoming pregnant with her third child. Duchess Catherine, who hasn’t made a public appearance since early September, has been recuperating while the rest of world sends her their good wishes and morning sickness remedies. Even a thoughful little schoolboy very sincerely offered Prince William an avocado for his sick wife. Too cute!
We don’t know if the expectant mom tried the avocado — which is thought by some to calm an upset stomach during pregnancy — but according to her husband, the Duchess has been trialing some old-fashioned remedies of her own. Prince William revealed that his pregnant wife had tried ginger nut cookies, to combat morning sickness, but that they hadn’t helped much.
Chatting to 98-year-old Iris Orrell at a charity reception and awards ceremony for the Metropolitan and City Police Orphans Fund, the prince was asked by Iris how Kate was feeling.
"She’s been feeling better, thank you," he responded.
Iris revealed that she too had suffered from severe morning sickness when she was pregnant with each of her three sons.
"Did it get worse with each one?" Prince William asked Iris, perhaps suggesting that the Duchess’ hyperemesis gravidarum may be even worse with her third pregnancy than it was with George and Charlotte. Iris answered that it had.
The pair then chatted about the common belief that ginger helps with nausea and sickness. The Duke said his wife had tired the old-fashion remedy but had little success.
"Ginger biscuits," he said. "But there's not much ginger can do to stop that. We've done all that."
Kensington Palace has announced when the duchess is scheduled to make her next public appearance. It will be her first outing since the announcement of her third pregnancy. The much-loved royal will attend an event at Buckingham Palace on World Mental Health Day, on October 10. She will be joined by her husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry.
In a statement, the palace said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend a reception at Buckingham Palace on World Mental Health Day."

The event will celebrate those working in the mental health sectors across the U.K. and has already attracted an impressive array of guests — among those, many from leading mental health organizations.
We're sure royal-bump watchers have marked their calendars and will be transfixed on the duchess, who we hope will be well enough for the important event.
