Princess Diana will always be a style icon. Her fashion choices and beauty looks provide inspiration to this day, but there was one in particular that was pretty questionable. In her early years as a public figure, whether she was on a royal tour or simply attending a nice dinner, the People's Princess was never without her blue-lined lids. Until someone close to her decided to step in...
Mary Greenwall, the late royal's makeup artist, convinced Diana to ditch the blue eyeliner. In an exclusive interview with Yahoo Beauty, Mary admitted that she encouraged Diana to swap it for a softer hue. "I think beiges and browns are just so much prettier," she said. "Simple as that."
But just because she decided the color blue was out, that doesn't mean Mary stopped playing up Diana's beautiful eyes. Instead, Diana and Mary worked together to accentuate them in other ways. "She loved to exaggerate her gorgeous eyes and wear loads of mascara," said Mary.
All the makeup Diana chose to wear, even the blue liner, was relatively subtle. Mary explained that as a member of the royal family, Diana could make some changes to her makeup — but not very dramatic ones. "She was someone who was in the public eye presenting herself all the time to the public. It isn’t particularly appropriate to go on changing your look every five seconds."
Mary also revealed that Diana loved makeup so much that she would sometimes create her own looks. “She loved makeup and loved experimenting,” Mary said. “It wasn’t to the point of going from green eyeshadow to blue eyeshadow, but just experimenting with ways to bring her eyes out more. It was just much more about really getting her to look absolutely beautiful all the time.”
One thing's for sure, she succeeded in that!
