The Strange Reason This Couple Is Suddenly Dealing With 80,000 Extra Wedding Guests

Uninvited wedding guests showing up unexpectedly? We’ve heard of that before. But picture having a crowd of 80,000 to 100,000 people crash your big day–and knowing there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

New York couple Michael Sheridan and Patricia O’Connor are facing that very situation. The lovebirds decided to hold their reception at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, a Manhattan landmark and a beautiful, scenic spot for sure. But their wedding day just happens to fall on the same day as the visit of one very important NYC tourist: Pope Francis.

"Out of 365 days of the year, he chooses to walk through Central Park on the same day we’re getting married."

A whopping 80,000-plus people are expected to turn out to greet the pontiff, making reception logistics a nightmare–and not just because of the crowds; entrances to the park will also be closed during the Pope’s holy procession. While the groom-to-be says he’s been told his guests will be allowed in, it will involve some seriously good time management to get every one of their guests to the party on time.

It appears that this upbeat bride and groom are taking the whole unusual coincidence in stride–and maybe even holding out for an impromptu visit by this popular pontiff. But we’re sure that no matter what, this marriage is obviously very blessed from the start.
