The Royal Family Has Their Own Bed and Breakfast — And, It’s Actually Affordable
We’d be lying if we said we’ve never daydreamed about living a life that’s a little more regal. Who can blame us when we see the glamorous existences of the royal family in headlines on a daily basis? Although we can’t all be as lucky as Duchess Meghan and marry into the Windsor clan, we can spend time at one of their many lavish castles and make believe for awhile.
Prince Charles opened a bed and breakfast called the Granary Lodge in the Northern Highlands of Scotland earlier this year. It is technically situated “just a few meters” away from the Castle of Mey, but it will still get most of us far closer to a real royal experience than we ever would have dreamed. Even a tour of Kensington Palace can’t compare to waking up in an actual piece of royal history right on the family’s grounds.
Charles’ grandmother, the Queen Mother, formerly used the lodge as her residence after purchasing it in 1952. Today, it offers 10 “individually styled” (AKA super fancy) bedrooms. You can see a few examples for yourself on the lodge’s official Instagram account, or take a look below to see Charles touring the facilities.
Despite not being the actual castle, if you scroll all the way to the last slide in his post, you can see that the Granary Lodge is still pretty darn expansive. As for how expensive it is to book a room, we were pleasantly surprised by their modest rates ranging between $175 and $188 a night. Hey, for castle-adjacent digs touched by royalty, we would have expected something closer to the four-digit ballpark!
And as a bed and breakfast, the lodge doesn’t skimp on pampering for their guests. You’ll not only wake up surrounded by the lush decor, but also to a “delicious freshly-cooked breakfast” made from “quality, locally-sourced ingredients.” Who wouldn’t love to start their day like that?
Sadly, there is one drawback: no pets allowed (unless they’re service animals). The royals might famously love dogs as much as the rest of us, but your pooch will just have to settle for the slideshow you provide when you get home.
