At her heaviest in 2014, Christine Carter was constantly feeling unhealthy. At only 5'5, she weighed almost 280 pounds and felt depressed. Quitting smoking had led her to swap her nicotine addiction for a food addiction; she now needed to have weekly medical checkups and relied on 10 different medications to get through the day.
Carter was also in an unhappy, controlling relationship with a jealous boyfriend. "Being overweight, I didn't feel I deserved anything better... Instead of dealing with my feelings, I was eating them. I would wake up and eat all day long; sometimes I would eat in the middle of the night."
Barely able to walk up a flight of stairs, she desperately tried diet after diet, but nothing worked.

Finally, Carter decided to try Vertical Gastric Sleeve surgery, which removed 70 percent of her stomach and led to an initial weight loss of 50 pounds--but the weight immediately crept back up, she says, because she wasn't addressing her problem of emotional eating.
"I had a wake-up call when I realized I was going to be a weight loss surgery failure."
She decided to find a coach and mentor at Hero Training Center who helped her work on not only her diet and fitness, but her mental well-being as well. Gradually, she was able to shed more than 140 pounds--and now she's half her former size, with a newfound confidence level that allowed her to end her unsatisfying relationship and excel further in her career.

"As the pounds came off, I slowly but surely uncovered the confident, dedicated, hardworking woman that was there all along but that was too shy and afraid to be exposed," says the 28-year-old from Texas, who says she barely recognizes herself when she sees old pictures. She eventually also underwent a tummy tuck to get rid of saggy post weight loss skin, and now makes healthy eating and exercise a normal part of her routine.
"I'll be honest: working out isn't my favorite thing in the world to do, but I am faithful and consistent," she said.
I get nervous to post a before and after picture in a two piece. I'm afraid. Because I don't like the girl I used to be-and I don't know her anymore. Why bring her up? Why expose her to the world? Can I just shut her away forever? I can't. Because too many others are currently that girl on the left. Battling to become more. Trying to find themselves. Trying to create a new life. I made it this far because the fire inside of me burned brighter than the fire around me. And the flame inside keeps growing. I know that one word or one picture can inspire someone to change their life for the better. Turn suffering to success. Turn your doubts into actions. Turn your dreams into plans. "Pick one bad habit-and fix the one thing. By committing even this one tiny thing, it begins to build confidence and trust in yourself that you can and you will do what you say you are going to do. Learn to love the struggle, and the results will come."
