How to Whiten Your Teeth With Strawberries

Tags:

Can your teeth ever really be white enough? When it comes to keeping our teeth white, pesky staining agents like coffee and other foods can wreak havoc on our efforts. People spend hundreds of dollars on teeth whitening procedures all the time, but why do that when you can get the benefits of an all-natural treatment that’s not laden with toxic chemicals? It’s also super cheap and easy to do. Enter, strawberries.

Yes, you read that right. Your favorite tiny red summer fruit is here to save the day and reveal your pearliest of pearly whites. But how? Well, strawberries contain a lot of something called malic acid, an astringent substance which helps to lift stains and discoloration from the teeth. Who knew?

When selecting your strawberries, make sure to go with the ripest, reddest berries, as these will contain the highest concentrations of malic acid. Important to note: Strawberries do contain sugar and some citric acid (which could be damaging to tooth enamel), so while they do help with whitening, you should make sure to brush properly after doing a strawberry treatment to avoid any bad consequences on your oral health.

There are a few ways to use strawberries for teeth whitening. You can either use strawberries alone by mashing up a ripe strawberry and applying it all over the teeth with a toothbrush. Leave on for about 15 minutes, then brush as usual with toothpaste. Repeat this process once a day and you will see visible results within two weeks, no expensive treatment required.

Another way to use strawberries for teeth whitening is to mix it with baking soda. Baking soda also helps with teeth whitening because it’s abrasive and helps to remove built-up plaque on the teeth. The alkaline powder in baking soda also helps to lift discolorations, but only on the surface of the teeth. Mixing both the malic acid from the strawberries and the baking soda allows for a more deeply penetrating clean. To do it, simply crush one ripe strawberry in a small bowl and mix it with about 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Apply the mixture to the surface of your teeth and let sit for five to 15 minutes. Brush as usual once your treatment is done, and floss to remove any strawberry seeds from between the teeth. Happy whitening!
